In reply to this comment, there was another who claimed to have gotten a natural high and being in a good mood throughout the day, cause seeing the videos made him feel like he knew ‘kung fu’ in comparison to how blank and confused he felt when the same Math concepts were being discussed in class, which he referred to as ‘the Matrix’. There happened to be a YouTube comment on one of his calculus videos where the user claimed to have smiled for the very first time, doing a derivative! (This left Sal Khan equally shocked, mind you.) His simple Math videos were having an impact globally. Khan recounts how after posting a few YouTube videos which were open for access to all, he received comments as well as letters from all around the world. He talks about how so many people came forward with praises, how his YouTube videos helped students globally in overcoming the fear of topics and the fear of Math problem solving. His Math videos on YouTube started getting views from all over the world. Khan talks about his idea of using video to reinvent the idea of education in his 2011 TED talk. To his surprise, his cousins said that that they enjoyed him in YouTube videos, instead of seeing him in person (because they could study at their own pace, revise concepts as needed, etc.). Khan, who started off by helping tutor his cousins remotely, decided to put his teaching videos on YouTube to accommodate schedules. ![]() It was the brainchild of an analyst at a hedge fund – Sal Khan. Khan Academy, a non-profit organization, came into existence in 2008.
